Business Education, BSED

PROGRAM STANDARDS
1. Professionalism - The business teacher models professionalism to their students. This must be displayed inside the classroom as a caring, dedicated instructor along with outside activities including leadership and advocacy roles in organizations working to promote the profession in the community, state, and nation.
2. Curriculum Development - The business teacher prepares students for careers in business, for their roles as consumers and citizens, for advanced education in business, to understand the American economy and global business concepts, and how to find and present information.
3. Instruction - The business teacher embraces multiple approaches to learning including teacher-directed learning, student self-directed learning, and collaborative learning.
4. Assessment - The business teacher uses formal and informal assessments to obtain accurate measures of student progress. The teacher verifies that students have a clear understanding of achievement standards and performance expectations and that the measures used clearly reflect the students' acquisition of knowledge.
5. Management - The business teacher manages the learning environment (classroom management, curriculum implementation, cooperative education, internship, community-based activities, and student assessment); and manages auxiliary activities that support and compliment the program outside of the classroom.
6. Student Organizations - The business teacher supports student organizations, recognizing the opportunities they provide the business education student to encounter real-world experiences.
7. Professional Communication - The business teacher will base all communication on principles of respect, fairness, and honesty; exhibit an understanding of communication as a dynamic field; demonstrate exceptional communication abilities; recognize the influence culture has on communication; and utilizes technology to enhance and expand communication opportunities.
8. Publics - The business teacher will build public relations that enable students to move between school and community to facilitate the learning process; develop partnerships that enable students to have real-world experiences; understand the vital role partnering with members of the business community plays in the education process.
9. Career Development- The business teacher assists students in functioning in the educational environment; helps them discover their potential, make career decisions; collaborates with guidance and other entities involved in the students' learning experiences.
10. Subject Competencies- The business teacher studies a broad range of introductory business subjects and completes additional study in areas related to business to become knowledgeable in all areas they may teach.
