PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Middle Level Education Grades 4-8

This program prepares education majors to teach students in grades four through eight in elementary and/or middle schools. Undergraduate students learn about middle school students’ developmental characteristics and learning styles. Coursework provides strategies, methods, and techniques to help children understand mathematics, reading/language arts, science concepts, and social studies topics. Teacher candidates can specialize in one of these areas to develop expertise to work in a departmentalized setting in an elementary and/or middle school. The middle school philosophy, classroom management techniques, and teaching a diverse population are interwoven concepts in all courses. Teacher candidates engage in four unique field placements to apply theory to practice in the real world.
